Can someone tell me, what will be announced first? Scotrail or East coast?

Scotrail is "September/October", and the bids have been in since the end of April.
East Coast simply says "from June 2014" with mobilisation from November. The bids have been in since 19 June.
They could both be announced at any time.

In theory East Coast should be quicker to process with only three bidders, and with most of the rolling stock options (IEP) already contracted by DfT and common to all bids.
Scotrail has five bidders and a host of rolling stock and service options to consider, but they have had 4+ months at it already.
I think we can rule out the week of 18 September for a Scotrail announcement!

My bet is on National Express or MTR for Scotrail and Keolis /Eurostar for East Coast

An interesting thought has emerged regarding the ScotRail franchise and Independence if the vote is yes we could see ScoRrail bidding to run the east coast and west coast routes, now that would be an interesting situation. There is a presidence in that many foreign rail companies already run franchises in the UK so this would not be a new idea.Penderlinos in the Saltaire livery would be look good and adverts for Iron Brew inside ,could this be the future?

Word on the streets is the ScotRail franchise bidder starts with an A.

So place your bets on either Arriva or Abellio.

For the East Coast apparently Stagecoach could be in the frame.

Stagecoach/Virgin, First & Eurostar/Keolis could be in the frame. Everything is rumour mill until it is announced. Its normally leaked 24 -48 hours in advance from previous franchise announcements.

A watched pot never boils, even in Scotland. :D

Good money would be on Abellio. I've said this before, certain parties within Holyrood are after Abellio to gain the contract, having special evening gathering just for them to help promote the company.

The announcement was always going to be made after the 18th September, with any time after the 29th September most likely.

Iv heard all their names been mentioned. People must be making stuff up in their heads and issuing it out. Last weeks story was the full circle back to "First will retain it " Some top managers did not have any answers yesterday so any statement is a guess.

Nowhere near enough to a Pacer :(
No, the whole point of the current livery is that it should not change if & when the franchise changes.

A system the rest of the UK could well do with adopting. Opperaters could still put there own individual stamp on things e.g. Leather seats in First, branded headrests or TOC Logos on windows, doors etc but if the entire network adopted a standard culler scheme for internal and external livery, carpets, seat covers, floor and wall coverings and grab handles a fortune would be saved!

Indeed. We could even give them set names like, oh, I don't know, InterCity East Coast, InterCity West Coast and CrossCountry ;).

Though wasn't the chatter just before the TSGN announcement that First had retained the franchise? As always it's probably best just waiting until the announcement is made as anything else is really just speculation!

About the only rumours about franchise awards I trust are the ones that appear in the Guardian and FT, theyve got very good sources inside the Dft and usually know about a week before the formal announcement :P

The winning bidder and maybe the close runner up, should have been informed by today that they need to carry out the audits on their bids. This process takes around a week or so, so they bidders should already know that they are close to the winning line.
