Surely very little difference between driving a refurbed set and a classic set?

To drive: yes, you're correct, there's no real difference between driving a refurbished set to a classic set. Most of the additional training will be for the Guards. But with the refurbished set, we will be responsible for checking the doors on a refurbished set during Prep/Safety checks, therefore Drivers will need training on how to actually operate the doors (which shouldn't be too time-consuming, as they are designed to mimic a 170 door panel). Drivers don't go near the slam doors (other than to check the doors are closed & no CDL lights are lit on the coaches before moving) - we don't check the actual operation of them, that's down to the Guards, but we WILL have to do this on the refurbished coaches.

Also, the refurbished sets are fitted with a Traction Interlock Isolation/over-ride (this is isolated when a refurbished power car is working with slam door 'classic' stock - otherwise the brakes can't be released, as was discovered by one of my colleagues one day...), which we will need a refresher on.

Hospitality staff will also need some sort of training re the hot food/buffet on the refurbished sets. I can't see Drivers who have already trained on HSTs having to do 'familiarisation' runs with refurbished stock, it's just that the 3rd refurbished set may just become the training train for Inverness, allowing any Drivers who have still to qualify on HSTs to have their training, along with a conversion course for the guards at the same time.

Is 1B52 0944 Inverness to Edinburgh going to be an HST this week or have technical issues relegated it to a 170/158 ?

We can only say on the day. The best place to ask is the pinned thread on the "Allocations, Diagrams and Timetables" section of the forums.

And while we’re at it, does anyone know the Euromillions numbers for tomorrow?

It was an HST Today. You'll only ever know day to day - that goes for those of us who are staff too!
Or even hour to hour. I’ve been booked a HST that then became a 170 and then back to a HST in the space of 15 minutes!

Probably feeds straight off the system that control staff use, which is as simple as dragging a copying and pasting a diagram against a unit to allocate. It's done with a few taps of the keyboard or clicks of a mouse. Could change any number of times on that system in advance of the train running, although should be accurate when the train is on the move.

I see that 1A71 - the 1130 Edinburgh to Aberdeen - only got as far as Haymarket this morning. Anyone know if this was a HST or 170/158?

The nature of the fault meant that the set couldn’t continue in service. If it had been able to, it would have.

Tuesday 19th Feb, 43132 was the rear power car on 8.38am from Queen St to Aberdeen.

Has 43132 been refurbished yet? Think this PC was on the very 1st training train we had, but was swapped for 43127. Think 43132 was the PC that was named after the 150th anniversary of Aberdeen station?

Modern Railways reports that a 3rd set is due shortly with 3 more sets in the latter stages. But also reports the Kilmarnock will be taking on the conversation of around 26 mkIIIs to increase the speed of delivery.

This 3rd set has been due shortly since before Christmas, the joke is starting to wear thin.

Yes it's been "due" for weeks, It's a joke since about 10 sets have gone in but only two have come out, Great Western 6 in but only 2 out. Surely in this day and age does it take this long? I can't remember Chiltern having this problem with its plug door fitted Mk3's in the early part of the 2010s? Scottish folk should not have to put up with slam doors and waste dumped on the track by unrefurbished sets in service.
