Apparently queuing has been enforced at Glasgow Central, or maybe that’s a ploy to make people use another method of travel

They'll be back early. The rain is imminent. It's already been chucking it in Oban.
ScotRail have been quite open as to why they can't resume a full service from Monday. A number of drivers have retired or left and training has stopped because it always requires two in the cab.

I find it bizarre that it’s deemed safe enough to have 2 pilots in a cockpit but not 2 people in a train cab!

1/2 pilots and/or 1 first officer needed to fly a plane, one driver needed to drive a train. not 100% necessary to have two people in a train cab.

Currently on the 12:43 Saltcoats to Glasgow Central train.

What do ScotRail run? A three carriage Class 380. This service does get busy at places like Johnstone. Even though it’s nearly time to return to normal service, they should really refrain from running 3 car units in single formation

I'd imagine they are getting very close to their regular level. Even though they are every 15 minutes, Staff may refuse for you to board a service via Falkirk High during peak times if they know it's going to get busy.

You should try a less busier route, for example via Shotts or via Airdrie. You have more chance of getting a seat and getting onto the train at peak times. 6-7pm is also questionable, as a lot of people would be coming back from the city at that time as it would be at the very end of peak. Contrary to the above, they may well put that into effect. As I said, you should try and stay off the line via Falkirk as that will no doubt be the busiest.

noticed tonight a few 4 carriage trains (rather than 8) on the Edinburgh-Glasgow route via Falkirk High after 7pm. Will this be a regular occurrence or were these just short formed today?

The 1915/1930 EDB-GLQ are booked 4 cars only, split off of 1815 GLQ-EDB.

They are still quiet compared to normal. Passenger levels have increased but are fairly consistent over the day. With almost all City Centre offices still closed there's no real "rush hour". The huge wave of office workers that normally occurs just after 5pm isn't happening.

Yes , you will get shoppers to Town but after they have closed its quiet. Still think they could ditch the evening 430 to 630 peak time ticket restriction if its still quiet.

Noticed on the East Kilbride line that Sunday evening services are half hourly while rest of week its hour until 2147.

Was ready to agree here but given that they’re actively trying to avoid a build up of passengers at that time, removing peak restrictions would work against that.

Not a very great day for ScotRail today, severe flooding across the network resulting in over 100 train cancellations.

Not their fault! At the moment the only way into Oban from the south is from Stirling. The railway is closed near Rhu, the A83 at the Rest, again, and the A82 along loch Lomond. And even the A85 is difficult alongside loch Awe.

Most of the core routes in the Central Belt are pretty much gone. The roads aren't bearing up well either. I believe there are no trains to Helensburgh at all, with the e2g via Falkirk and Cumbernauld being closed to trains too.

A real shame - PPM was sitting at 97% before that happened, but not their fault

Amazing what one day of heavy rain can do in the summer.

Dalmally had nearly 5inches. That's more than 'heavy'.

Something strange out and about today. According to RTT an 8 car Class 380 has been allocated to the following services:

5K80 - 11:55 Ayr CSD to Ayr
2K80 - 12:06 Ayr to Glasgow Central
1F65 - 13:18 Glasgow Central to Ardrossan Harbour
1F68 - 14:36 Ardrossan Harbour to Glasgow Central
2K89 - 15:34 Glasgow Central to Ayr
1K48 - 16:54 Ayr to Glasgow Central
2K99 - 18:04 Glasgow Central to Ayr
2K00 - 19:34 Ayr to Glasgow Central
5G90 - 22:32 Glasgow Central to Corkerhill C.S.M.D

Units are 380101 and 380104. If anyone is out and about today it might be worth chasing as 8 car 380s are extremely rare.

Another thing I have noticed is that Ayr and Gourock have an odd imbalance of their express services today:

From Ayr:
0650, 0741, 0829, 0851, 1450, 1525, 1548, 1623, 1654, 1724, 1753, 1825, 1850

From Gourock:
0954, 1154, 1354, 1454, 1524, 1549, 1627, 1654, 1724, 1824, 1948

From Glasgow Central to Ayr:
0600, 0630, 0700, 0730, 0800, 0830, 0900, 0932, 1000, 1600, 1628, 1702, 1730, 1800, 1830

From Glasgow Central to Gourock:
0555, 0655, 0828, 0906, 0925, 0955, 1055, 1255, 1455, 1555, 1652, 1727, 1826, 1855

It isn't so much badly balanced from Gourock today. Which seems to maintain a general 2-3 hourly fast service (which is pointless as it really should be hourly!). Yet Ayr has a gap of 6 hours between their fast trains. I understand that staff are shielding, but surely they should have enough staff to cover at least 3tph from these stations? I understand not being able to reinstate 4tph, but randomly running express services show that they do have the resources. (Particularly around 5-6pm from Ayr).

I assume they are anticipating large numbers of daytrippers to the seaside. I think that they've been overcrowded, certainly beyond social distancing.

Must've been an error on RTT's end. The set ran as a 4 car today. 380101 only.

I understand trains to Largs are very busy due to the demand for Millport. CalMac were once again reporting wait times of over an hour due to the amount of people trying to get to the island. Yet ScotRail finds it suitable to run 4 cars to Largs all day.

RTT shows what is sent to it by the operator. We have noticed since the data has been available publicly that errors like this have been somewhat reducing for operators that are participating.

Both 380101+380104 were allocated to the same diagram this morning, from 0315. 104 was removed from the diagram at 0915 and it has been 4 cars since then.

It would've been fun to have seen an 8 car 380 running around Ayrshire. I remember when the 380s first came into service, ScotRail promised that we would be seeing 8 car formations on a daily basis.
