I understand 10 units will be fitted with equipment for use on the Edinburgh - Glasgow line. Not sure which ones, if I has to hazard a guess it will be the ones that have bieng refurbished, but that bit is speculation. For the trail it will be free.

Anyone know what technology will be used, again guessing it will be 3G based but don't know who the partner will be. Likewise I guess as the equipment is train based when the units stray you may be the pleasure on Dunblane trains at least until they leave the mainline.

I wonder what take up will be like, but I have known it on shorter routes. A lot of competing bus routes as have Wi-Fi in Scotland.

As I understand it they only plan or planned to fit 4 units with wifi as its only a trial. Pot luck if you get a wifi fitted unit on your journey though.

Non of the ones refurbished so far have them in standard. Would be surprised if the did when most journeys are around the 1 hour mark. The ones that came from Hull trains have them of course, no idea if the work or not.

Afaik the sockets on the ex hull units do work in std class.

That is what I thought, my 10 came from the metro (bad source) with a letter from Jim Yellowlees? The Scotrail press officer if I have his name wrong, he signed off in his official capacity.

I understand 10 units will be fitted with equipment for use on the Edinburgh - Glasgow line. Not sure which ones
From todays ScotRail news briefing :

1. Which of the four Class 170 units have been or will be installed with
this equipment?

This information is not currently available.

2. Who is the Wi-Fi network service provider?
ScotRail is to test two different Wi-Fi systems. They are Nomad Digital’s
R3200 router and Icomera’s X6 router.

3. The areas of coverage to be provided, ie ScotRail passenger services
The systems will be fitted to three-car Class 170 units that primarily
operate between Edinburgh and Glasgow Queen Street via Falkirk High. These
units may occasionally also serve Edinburgh/Glasgow – Aberdeen and
Edinburgh/Glasgow – Inverness.

4. I would also appreciate a full copy of the Press Release for the launch
on 19 June 2012

The February release is available on the Transport Scotland website:
www.transportscotland.gov.uk/news/wifi-pilot-scheme. No further release is
yet available, but we will ensure you receive a copy when it is issued.

5. Any changes, new or relevant information since this Press Release of
February 2012

As stated, Transport Scotland will announce further information in due
course.

You will note the briefing states four Class 170 units
This suggests two will have Nomad and two will have Icomera

I received my invite to the launch of the WiFi on-board ScotRail trains today

Date: Tuesday 19 June 2012

Time: 09.15 for a 09.30 start. Event ends at 10.15.

Venue: Platform seven, Glasgow Queen Street station, G1 2AF

Summary: ScotRail and Transport Scotland are launching a trial of free
Wi-Fi on four trains, in a pilot scheme running until 17 September.

Customers will have faster access to email, Facebook, Twitter and other
websites on about one in ten Edinburgh-Glasgow Queen Street (via Falkirk
High) services, and occasionally on other lines too.

Feedback will help shape the next steps for bringing Wi-Fi to ScotRail’s
trains.

A Transport Scotland news release will be available on the day.

I hope they try and have a set daigram(s) for the trains like GNER did in thier initial fit out.

Be interesting to see how they preform to Inverness.
