Seaham - Glasgow routeing query

Hello

Under usual circumstances, a Seaham - Glasgow ticket (any permitted route) could be used either via the ECML/Edinburgh then across many routes to Glasgow, or it could be used across the Tyne Valley to Carlisle and then up the WCML or via Dumfries to Glasgow.

At the moment, the main ECML services are diverted on Saturdays Newcastle - Carlisle - Carstairs - Edinburgh. Therefore, would it be feasible to use a Seaham - Glasgow ticket on one of these LNER services and then cross to Glasgow from Edinburgh via the usual routes? Usually this would not be allowed but given the diversion and using a direct train which would usually take a direct and allowed route, I would be interested to know.

Yes that’s ok. There are other threads explaining that the call at Carlisle is not a passenger stop anyway, so as far as you’re concerned you‘re still doing a normal, (but non-stop), Newcastle to Edinburgh leg, followed by Edinburgh to Glasgow.

Whilst Carlisle is not an advertised passenger stop, if you ask the guard you may be able to leave the train there, enabling you to get to Glasgow much quicker (if you want). There is a change of traincrew on all the diverted trains so all trains will stop.
