Seat reservation same day.

I'm intending to make a journey ; Yeovil PM to Manchester on Monday 9th April (Easter Mon.)
Timings are YPM-Bristol TM 09:41 to 11:31 by FGW Weymouth-Gloucester stopper.
Then 12:00 to 14:59 BRI to MAN by XC Paignton-Manchester.

As I have health issues at the moment I would prefer to just turn up on the day.
rather than book in advance (There are no advance tickets showing anyway).

Can I still reserve a seat on the XC train even though it's same day and the XC would've left Paignton at 10:07 ?
