During the Jarrow March of October 1936, the marchers were fed and accommodated overnight at towns and cities along the route to London. Most communities were welcoming and supportive of the marchers, even in prosperous, strongly Tory locations such as Harrogate. Two settlements which were reported to have given the Jarrow Marchers a luke-warm reception were Chester-le-Street and Market Harborough.
