Much Wenlock was historically the chief town of the ancient borough of Wenlock. The "Much" was added to the name to distinguish it from the nearby village and civil parish of Little Wenlock, and signifies that it is the larger of the two settlements.

Possibly the most famous former pupil of the Blessed Edward Jones Catholic High School in Rhyl is Honorary Group Captain Carol Voderman RAFAC, who was a pupil there in the 1970s. She was, however, born in Bedford on 24th December 1960.

Reddish has been home to at least three breweries. One of these was Richard Clarke & Co., who brewed in the area for over 100 years before being taken over, and later closed, by Boddingtons in 1962. Boddingtons were based at the Strangeways Brewery in Manchester, but this closed in 2004 and production was moved to Samlesbury in Lancashire.
