The suffix "-ey" in a place name is derived from the Anglo-Saxon "eg" which meant "island". Whittlesey was an island in the fens. Bermondsey was a similar island in the marshy land south of the Thames.

Watford was the home of Benskins Brewery until its takeover by Ind Coope in 1957, shortly afterwards becoming part of Allied Breweries.
Another brewery taken over and absorbed by the Allied Breweries empire around the same time was Walkers based in Warrington.
