John Nettles played the original Chief Inspector Barnaby in Midsomer Murders. He was previously well know for playing Sergeant Jim Bergerac in "Bergerac". Although mostly filmed in the Channel Islands, the final episode was the 1991 Christmas Special titled "All for Love", which was set partly in Bath.
Lionel Thomas Caswall (Tom) Rolt, author and pioneer of canal and railway preservation, was born in Chester but lived for much of his adult life (when not on a canal boat) in Stanley Pontlarge, Gloucestershire. He is buried in the churchyard there.
