A famous event of the English Civil War took place in Tresillian in 1646. Thomas Fairfax sent a "summons of surrender" to Ralph Hopton who replied that he was willing to negotiate terms. Fairfax agreed to negotiate and both sides met at Tresillian Bridge. Hopton agreed to move his army to St Allen as a gesture of trust and goodwill allowing Fairfax to occupy Truro.
Penryn RFC were founded in 1872 and are the oldest rugby club in Cornwall. They play in the Tribute Western Counties West League, where they play Honiton RFC, who were promoted with them from the Tribute Cornwall/Devon League last season. They play at Allhallows Playing Field, Honiton.

Jaywick Martello Tower is a renovated Martello tower built in 1809 and now functions as an arts, heritage and community venue. There are a number of surviving towers around the United Kingdom, with two being located in Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire, which were built between 1848 and 1857 to protect the naval base there.
Before becoming a dock, Glasson was the site of small farming and fishing community, known as Old Glasson and Brows-saltcote. Directly across the river from Glasson lies the village of Overton.
