Following Germany's capitulation at the end of WW2, elements of the German Navy still at sea surrendered to the Allies at several ports in the UK.
The U-Boat submarine fleet surrendered in (London)Derry, whilst fast attack craft known as E-Boats (Schnellboot in German) surrendered at Felixstowe. [typing corrected]

John Taylor, the 'Water Poet', was born in Gloucester in 1578. A Thames waterman, he wrote poetic travelogues of his many journeys, some of which were somewhat eccentric. For example he rowed (or claimed so) from London to Queenborough in a paper boat, with stock-fish tied to canes for oars.

Bowness-on-Solway is the western end of the Hadrian's Wall Path. On it's way to the eastern end at Wallsend, the Path passes through Heddon-on-the-Wall in Northumberland.
