The B6309 runs through Whittonstall; it starts on the A696 to the west of Belsay and ends just outside the village of Leadgate, at a roundabout on the current A692 bypass.

In William of Malmesbury's account of the Treaty of Eastmont Bridge (a village in Cumbria), he states that the meeting of the kings took place in Dacre ('ad locum qui Dacor uocatur'), but historians doubt the accuracy of his statement.

Alford is the birthplace of the renowned poet, Charles Murray, who wrote in the Doric dialect of Scots. After he retired in 1924, he settled in Banchory, Aberdeenshire, not far from where he was brought up, and died there in 1941.

Sir Robert Alexander Watson-Watt KCB FRS FRAeS was born in Brechin on 13th April 1892. One of his inventions was the Chain Home (CH) ring of coastal Early Warning Radar stations built by the RAF before and during the Second World War to detect and track aircraft. One of these sites was at the village of Dunkirk, in Kent.

Stamford Bridge is on the River Derwent in Yorkshire. But Darley Bridge is on the different River Derwent in Derbyshire.

The bridge in question is known as Beggar's Bridge, and was built by Thomas Ferris in 1619. Ferris was a poor man who hoped to wed the daughter of a wealthy local squire. In order to win her hand, he planned to set sail from Whitby to make his fortune. On the night that he left, the Esk was swollen with rainfall and he was unable to make a last visit to his intended. He eventually returned from his travels a rich man and, after marrying the squire's daughter, built Beggar's Bridge so that no other lovers would be separated as they were. The bridge is now Grade II* listed.

F1 team McLaren are based in Woking, another team is Williams, based at Grove, Oxfordshire.

Edit: Historic note, Woking was also the location of the first crematorium, at St Johns.

Melksham Town FC are members of the Southern League Division One South and play at the Oakfield Stadium, Melksham. Their longest away journey is probably to Bideford AFC, who play at the Sports Ground, Bideford.
