The distinguished engineer and inventor Sir Charles Parsons is buried in the parish church of St Bartholomew with his wife Katherine, and there is a memorial to them in the church. He was born in London into an Anglo-Irish family, whose family seat is Birr Castle, Birr, County Offaly.

The General Havelock pub in Haydon Bridge has received high praise for its food. Major General Sir Henry Havelock, celebrated in Britain for the relief of Kanpur (Cawnpore) during the Indian rising of 1857-58 and his subsequent death from disease during the siege of Lucknow. He was born at Ford Hall in the Ford district of Sunderland.

One of the visitor attractions in Airdrie is The Wallace Stone – legend tells that William Wallace sharpened his sword on this stone on his way to the Battle of Falkirk in July 1298.

The Forth and Clyde Canal separates Old Kilpatrick from the north bank of the River Clyde, which is just a few metres beyond it to the south. The Canal was opened in 1790, crossing central Scotland; it also passes through the Maryhill district of Glasgow.

Sir Giles Gilbert Scott's iconic K6 "red" phone boxes were manufactured at several locations around Great Britain.
One of these was the Lion Foundry in Kirkintilloch, another was the McDowall Steven Foundry in Port Dundas.

One of the major local firms in the area is the Distribution Centre of the publisher HarperCollins, which has been located in the Westerhill area of Bishopbriggs, since (as William Collins, Sons and Co Ltd) they moved there from Townhead in the early 1970s.

When the Anderton Boat lift was restored in 2000-2, the redundant metal counterweights were used to make a maze in the visitor center. A better known maze is at Hampton Court, on the other side of the River Thames from the Palace.

I don't think that Hampton Court is a settlement, as it's a royal palace in the borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Not caring about stirring up this discussion, I posted Hampton Court several months ago, and argued against similar opposition - ie, in my view that HC was not just a building, but an associated settlement - successfully. Therefore as HC is in England, and English law allows for precedent, Hampton Court should be allowed. Go, Andy!

Though the maze is in the palace grounds, on the same side of the River.

I'm happy with that, so let's move on with this:

The altar in the Chapel at Hampton Court Palace is framed by a massive but plain oak reredos with garlands carved by Grinling Gibbons during the reign of Queen Anne. St Michaels and All Angels Church, Badminton, has a monument by Gibbons to Henry Somerset, 1st Duke of Beaufort (1629–1700).

Badminton is a racquet sport where you hit a shuttlecock. Not all sports involving the wielding of an item use these - some use bats. As such, Batley (Yorkshire)

There are many places to eat and drink in Westbourne; one is the Porterhouse pub, which is owned by the local Ringwood Brewery, which has it's headquarters in Ringwood, Hampshire.

Durrington is located very close to the famous prehistoric monument of Stonehenge. Another prehistoric monument is the hillfort of Old Oswestry, close to the site of the modern-day market town of Oswestry.

The village of Gobowen is also within the Oswestry Uplands, which is a designated natural area and national character area.
