I presume that @AnthonyRail meant the train fare from wherever they live!it is £32 per day which is high but offers a decent return
You have been misinformed. Have a look at https://www.svr.co.uk/pdf/Special Events/Autumn Diesel Gala WTT Updated 02102019.pdfBut for me tomorrow was the ONLY day I would be able to go so I am hoping they put one of the westerns and the 40 on but I am led to believe only 4 locos plus the gronks on the Thursday and 3 of those are definitely 50's (don't get me wrong I love 50's ) but a little variety is always welcome but sausage rolls are in the oven camera battery on charge and am just about to go and fill up the car
the question is shall I set my alarm to 05.00 or leave it at 05.35 as normal
I’m not going to argue about Westerns vs Deltics.

Be warned D1062 not now working.
Deltics were not built at Darlington! On Saturday, all being well I shall be travelling out of Bridgnorth (no e!) on a Darlington built machine an hour or so before the Western - 40106. I do plan on covering the Western for a shorter trip later on though, but I prefer to concentrate on non mainline stuff when at galas.
Doncaster. Second best building location. Still miles ahead of any western rubbish Shame none are to appear at this gala
I had forgotten about 40106 being built at Robert Stephenson and Hawthorns in Darlington. Still hoping to go on Friday
Aargh, nor were they built at Doncaster! The prototype was constructed at Preston and the rest at Vulcan Foundry at Newton-le-Willows.
Thanks very much for that! I'll be going tomorrow, so it's nice to know what's happening and what's not. I need to have another look at the new timetable to check that I can still do my planned journeys.Trip report
The complicated new timetable proved difficult so much late running caused by sections being blocked for long periods but in they end they got it sorted once they had got the hang of the maneuvers
best loco there performance wise 40106 which made up 6 mins Bewdley to Highley then got stuck at Highley !! and D1015 which even on one engine was accelerating very well away from station stops as was 37688
50007 has been numbered 50014 warspite on one sidebut was running well as was 50033 but 50049 appears to have issues and couldn't get above 15MPH with load 8 whereas the class 20 could
clayton was a no show (mechanical issues apparently) but might run on saturday and the teddy bear despite only running in multiple so as not to tax it too much sat down and had to be returned to the engine yard to await repair
Thanks for the info - the one thing that annoys me about diesel enthusiasts is their obsession (a lot of the time, not all of the time) with 37s and "hellfire". As you say - it's a 25mph line - give over!Note: the class 17 was running today in tandem with the class 14
Note: 2 x class 20 were in operation apparently ( although I only saw 1)
Note: 50044 is not in service
Note: D1015 was running in service last weekend
Note: 50033 looked and sounded pretty decent
Note: hardcore shunter action was quite good fun!
Note: the local servies to highley were good and offered varied traction
Note: wibbling spotters do my head in. Terribly dull people. Who cares if gbrf have painted their locos in house colours or called one the wrong name. Ffs. Shut up. It is their toy to play with. You want to play with it then pony up otherwise just enjoy the day out.
(One bloke looked like he was about to have a thrombo over this. He, honestly, refused to travel on the gbrf coloured locos!)
Note: young spotters desperately trying to use terms like hellfire and my lords to gain kudos. Just stop. It is a 25mph railway gala. Chill out. Enjoy the trundle.
Note: decent day apart from the delays to and from and the wibbling spotters. The trains were not rammed like I expect them to be tomorrow and getting photos was generally easy with the number of people unable to consier others quite low ( one man aside!) The weather was ok for October and the atmosphere was pretty relaxed
Ps no beer consumption!
Ooh, sweeping generalisation! I can point you in the direction of plenty of Sulzer fans who consider 37s and other EE locos to be rancid trash. I happen to take a different view but each to their own. Thanks for the info - the one thing that annoys me about diesel enthusiasts is their obsession (a lot of the time, not all of the time) with 37s and "hellfire". I quite like the GBRf locos. I didn't repaint a 00 gauge Lima 50 into GBRf earluer this year for nothing!

On the EE front I always found that it was the 40s and 50s that attracted the more vociferous following. As for the 'Peak Army', best not go there!
Diesel galas need to attract as wide a range of enthusiasts as possible, from those dedicated to their favourite class to 'scratch merchants' attracted by something rare to those who just want a fun day out. Sometimes members of one tribe are baffled by what makes the others tick.

Passed your train at Hampton Loade... couldn't see which seat was 10!Well it was an early start for me, dropped the van off at my friends house before we headed up the M5 in his car.
Currently in seat 10 in the second coach behind 40106 just about to leave Bridgnorth (no e ), say hello if you’re passing.

Well I passed you in the third bay of the front coach behind 37688 (which was unbelievably noisy). I might see you on 50033 later as we’re heading back up to Hampton Loade behind D1015 to pick it up.I was in the front bay, front coach (where else!), currently heading for Bridgnorth as part of a round trip behind 50033 which is a total credit to the Class 50 Alliance who have restored it back to working order.
Are you going to be on the 1650 off Bridgnorth? If so, where on the train? I'll be on that one too.Well I passed you in the third bay of the front coach behind 37688 (which was unbelievably noisy). I might see you on 50033 later as we’re heading back up to Hampton Loade behind D1015 to pick it up.
