Not 100% sure, but I *think* the role has never been restructured, so would still have enhancements for nights and weekends and a shift allowance if that is the case. So actual pay could be more.

24k is the base rate, however there are enhancements to almost every shift ontop of that basic rate. So take home tends to be a lot more than that.

(Source: I started at cricklewood and transferred to Peterborough last year)

So what would you say the more realistic take home is ?

    Hi all,

I have an application in for this but I'm still trying to understand details of the role.
Can anyone confirm if the advertised "Shunter" role includes driving duties?

I did see someone comment in another thread that "There are no shunter drivers at Cricklewood".
But wasn't sure if this mean there isn't a dedicated "shunter driver" role because the driving tasks are performed by the "shunter" role, or if mainline drivers do the necessary driving.

Sorry if this is a silly question.
    Thanks.

There is no shunter drivers, its purely ground based at cricklewood I believe.

That’s also my understanding, having been in and out of the depot many times.

The last Shunter role I applied for in a different depot did not have you driving either, but you still have to go through the same assessments and training as if you were. I was told you're more like a 'glorified parking attendant'

I believe that’s the role usually titled “ground shunter”. They can set routes within the depot, authorise trains passed stop boards etc. but can’t actually move trains themselves.

The pay tends to be lower than for shunter-drivers, to reflect the lower responsibility of the job (although it’s still very much a safety critical role).
