I am due to attend school on 13th March and wondering, if you're at school when it falls on a bank holiday, is it just like a normal day or is it a day off?

I only ask as I have a wedding to attend on Sunday 30th April and May 1st is a bank holiday and looking if it's worth driving back home Sunday night or booking a hotel and driving home Monday - silly question and thread but I needed to know.
