I remember reading this article a few months ago after it had been in the news but didn't realise it was now in effect in some places, let alone the ridiculous rules placed on some store staff.

This evening, I was in my local Asda, a smaller branch which replaced Netto some months ago. What used to be a normal display of cigarettes is now covered by plain white sliding doors. Normally I smoke rolling tobacco and as I didn't have a great deal of money on me, I told the cashier that I wanted 10 cigarettes, but as I couldn't see the prices, could she please open the doors so I could see what was available.
What I received was a blank look, and an explanation that she could not open the doors for this purpose, but only if I asked for a packet of cigarettes or asked for a specific price from which she could look behind and tell me. Knowing there was a branch of Sainsburys Local over the road, I told her not to bother and began to walk away only to be told that next time, I can request a price list on entering the store.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation yet?
