Snakes and Ladders

Just a strategy question here....

When I'm on square 45 and the ladder taking me to square 86 is at square 52 but the snake taking me to square 17 is at square 54 do you think it more prudent to roll one dice or 2 ?

As you can get neither on a proper 6 sided dice.
