I'm guessing university student market was also significant, and that will be largely moribund over the summer until September.
Coach hire costs probably did it for them .If you are hiring in a coach and driver you are looking at anything with a minimum of £600 pounds . In Cardiff it was NAT or Watts . To break even you have to fill it up both journeys. Even if you go with a passenger you are on a hiding already.

Wonder how National Express's very similar NEON (National Express on Demand) is doing since it was launched in a blaze of non-publicity a couple of months ago? Anyone used it yet? Anyone actually heard of it apart from an initial mention on the NX coach website?

First I have heard of it. If I wasn't a transport nerd I am not sure that I would even be aware of National Express if I didn't drive down the Finchley Road on a regular basis.

I Googled it (NEON itself) and got hardly any results.

Once I found it, it appears to have very little demand for services it is offering - 1 seat here, 2 there... maybe they should just stick to putting services on for concerts etc themselves?

While not knowing the arrangements I doubt very much that SNAP were paying the full market price you or I would be charged to hire a coach to London for the day. More Trade price than Retail. Possible options are SNAP having a price and the operator deciding whether to work for that amount. Alternatively the operators tendering for the work whether job by job or offering a price ufn subject to availability.

I think it was full price. NAT and Watts also supply Megabus with coaches. In the Cardiff area there are not many operators which limits Snap choice.

Excellent - they were much better than Megabus and a fair bit better than National Express on the Bristol route. Will the terminus in London be as before, in St Pancras Coach Station?
