Chiltern are advertising that some routes will be operated by buses today so that trains can be used on services from Wembley after the England football.

Considering wembley will only be a quarter full and they don't normally need to reduce services on other routes for a full wembley game. How come they do on this occasion?

To facilitate some level of social distancing on those trains to and from the Wembley game?

(Rightly or wrongly it would be inconsistent to have social distancing in the stadium but not bother about it on the transport arrangements to get people there.)

Also in the current situation and timetables. unlike Monday to Friday. The lapworth and Hatton stopper from Birmingham moor Street to leamington Spa on a Sunday dosent exist anymore and also has been emerged with the normal service through to London Marylebone. Ie emerging two services with one.
Social distancing is one reason.
Another reason due to Hatton and lapworth only takes 5 coaches and services are 7 to 8 coaches long.
Will require a lock out. So not ideal.
As chiltern 168 165 cannot do door select.
Thereby causing severe overcrowding.
However its also shall be noted that even during some very special events and especially DURING WEST COAST MAINLINE BLOCKS IE LONDON EUSTON CLOSED AND EVEN DURING NON COVID 19. For maximum stock and lengthy trains on this route as a alternative route when wcml passengers are using chiltern due to wcml closed.
Its is quite common for lapworth Hatton and even kings sutton to have replacement buses.

Serving Kings Sutton, Hatton, Lapworth, Monks Risborough and Little Kimble by bus allows Chiltern to run longer trains than would otherwise be possible due to the short platforms at those stations.

As for replacing services via Amersham by bus from Gerrards Cross, it avoids being at the mercy of London Underground in the event of the ongoing staffing issues at Hammersmith Service Control Centre resulting in an early closure of the Met Line at short notice. Not ideal, obviously, but it avoids potentially having to replan the entire service at short notice.
