Evening All,

Back in 1972, I went on a three week tour of South Africa and Mozambique, both countries being a Mecca for steam starved Brits! Now, nearly 50 years later, I have started putting a few photos from that trip on YouTube and if anyone would like to see them, here's the link; I hope they're of interest:

Evening All,

I have now put a further selection of South Africa steam pictures on my YouTube channel. This time, the pictures are from Capital Park MPD in Pretoria. Hope they're of interest:

Good afternoon,

The third slideshow of photos taken in South Africa in 1972 is now on my YouTube channel. The pictures were taken at Braamfontein, Kaserne and Springs MPDs in or near Johannesburg. Hope they're of interest:

Great stuff! I was there three years later - some of the older stuff you saw had gone by then, of course. Never went to Kaserne or Braamfontein - maybe they'd been dieselised by then as I don't even recognise the names.

We didn't realise how lucky we were at the time. Various friends that went there in the mid-70s tell me that they didn't see several of the classes that we did. Some areas were steam-free by 1975 when a friend of mine went to live there.

I shall be putting further slideshows from S.A. on YouTube as time permits.

Afternoon All,

I have been putting some more photos from my trip to southern Africa in 1972 on my YouTube channel if anyone would like to have a look. The latest one isn't in South Africa though, because we made a detour to see trains in Swaziland and Moçambique; what we saw there was wonderous to behold:

Take a look; I'm sure you wont be disappointed!

I don't know why we never went to the shed in Swaziland when I was there with my pal! I think only the Canadian-built 4-8-2s were working by then. Didn't know about the Henschel 2-10-2s. Gosh, the flames must have been out by the time they reached the superheater on those boilers :)

I really like the first two shots of the MPD in Mozambique. Well done.

Thanks. Glad that they're of interest. We were only there fore a couple of days as a detour from our main South African tour, but we could easily have spent a week there! And gone back again the following year.
