Govia were awarded the contract recently which is due to run from April 2006 and will last for 8 years based on whether they meet the agreed targets.

The current management of South Eastern is of a subsidury of the Starategic Rail Authority, like an "interim" TOC when the SRA terminated the Connex franchise early. Last week, it was announced by the Department for Transport that the franchise will be handed to GOVIA for a period of 8 years.

The SRA (as was) tried to put a halt to the same parent company linking up its operations in one area after the mess it came across when it tried to untangle SouthCentral & SouthEastern after the former's contract was terminated.
Interesting to see whether the DfT will promote such issues in the future.
