A South Pennine Day Ranger is valid to both Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly as shown on the route map. Would this ticket therefore be valid to Manchester Oxford Road (or even Deansgate) as they also form part of the Manchester Stations group?

Not according to National Rail (whose website just has a broken link) or Northern (whose map is here).

Interesting! But is that an official map? Which map is the definitive source on the matter?

It's not an official map no. I've used the South Pennine quite a few times and I'm sure I've alighted at Oxford Road or Deansgate before.

I've also found a Project Mapping map from 2017 which also suggests it's valid on the Chord too, which looks very similar to the NRE ones (maybe they make them for NRE)??

This is the map which appears on the internal NRE Knowledgebase, so it seem reasonable to assume validity at Deansgate and Oxford Road (the latter being specifically shown on the map).

I suspect this has happened because of the Chord being a recent addition - before that there was little reason to allow validity onto Castlefield.

Arguably that map shows the route *through* Deansgate, but not Deansgate itself (every other station is shown, even Reddish South and Denton)

Is the implication that the only reason it's valid that way is on the Ordsall Chord services, and none of those call at Deansgate? Could be an error, though, probably more likely that.

Possibly the original reason for adding it.

Still, I doubt the barrier staff at Deansgate would give you much hassle in practice anyway.

Are there (usually) barrier staff at Deansgate?
Not been recently, but pre-lockdown, staff located at both the overbridge (heading over towards the Metrolink station) AND at the barrier in front of the ticket office.

I just can’t recall encountering any on my visits, but maybe that’s something to do with the pub I was visiting!

Revenue staff usually at Deansgate between about 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday at both entrances. They are also often there evenings (til about 10pm) and Sundays.
