South Wales Freight - Why the round roofs?

I noticed a lot of Margam freight utilizes are rounder roof than most trains.

Is there some sort of gauging issue in South Wales that forces this design?

Those wagons were designed to convey steel coils, hence the shape! :)

AFAIK they are also used for other types of steel these days.
