Do you mean a South Yorkshire Day Tripper?

The National Rail Enquiries website states:

Purchasing - How to buy

(Driver will refer to when buying on a bus, Conductor will refer to when buying on a train).

You can buy this ticket, along with a return to the first station within the SYPTE area e.g. Darton (providing the train calls at Darton; if not Barnsley), from the conductor.

yeah a south yorkshire day tripper , so a return to darton would be needed and then the actual ticket itself

Yes, that's right. Ask for both tickets at the same time from the conductor.
