Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice for anyone that has been through the Southeastern online assessment. Now I have to complete the following 3 assessments.....

- Calculation Assessment
- Checking Assessment
- Verbal Reasoning

Now being sensible I thought I would have a look at the link that they provide for practice tests (Glad I did!). All I would say is wow some are incredibly hard. I'd consider myself to be a fairly bright individual but the couple of mock tests I have done have been incredibly hard (Harder than police exams I did some years ago). It was more down to the speed I think and the time you have. So for example you will have a fairly complicated maths question in which you have 18 seconds to work out. If I had another 3 or 4 seconds I could probably do it! Lol. But I can't type that quickly into a calculator. Ha ha.

So the point of my question I suppose is are the actual tests you do on the southeastern link similar to the test ones that they send out?

I appreciate you have to think quickly and on your feet for any job in a safety critical area.

Thanks all.

Regards

Gareth

Hi, it's been a couple of years since I did mine. I recall that the online assessments were really similar to the ones at the assessment centre.

Ok thanks. I've done 2 of them and they were incredibly hard. Have the maths one left to do.

To be honest having done 2 of them I'd be extremely surprised if I got through no matter what I do on the last one. :(

Often the speed is actually a test in itself; they are aware that almost nobody will be able to complete them all. They would rather you do 70% well and accurately than trying to rush through 90% with mixed results. That helps assess prioritisation and time management.

Thanks Horizon. I've done the maths one this morning and felt like it went well. Although it is tough.

Although I have doubts as to whether I will have done well enough on the other 2 to get through but we shall see.

So bit of an update. I'm guessing the tests went well but the job I have applied for seems to have changed to Conductor Talent pool.

Its says.....

'We wanted to confirm that we are still keen to progress your application and, as soon as we are able, we will be in touch with further details of when we can proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process'

I'm guessing that means I did ok otherwise I would have thought they would have just said thanks for your interest but we aren't progressing your application?

Was it a pool that you applied for in the first place?

Maybe they've recruited already. Either way, you are in the pool which is a positive stage - that means you have met the threshold and are on their records for when another vacancy arises and don't have to go through the whole process again.

Is the verbal reasoning like an English test and would my level 2 English functional skills qualification help me with that?

So the verbal reasoning was like reading a few paragraphs of text about something really random and then answering questions about it.

I found it pretty hard and couldn't always understand how to get the answer. Lol. But I passed so must have understood it.

The best thing you can do is Google some verbal reasoning tests and see how you get on to be honest.

If you have a good understanding of the English language I don't see why it would be a problem.

Its more to do with how you interpret what is written to be honest.

See if you can find some practice ones and your see what I mean.
