Caterham and Tattenham Corner. Service split at Purley when I was using Charing Cross in 1970

Where did these services run to/from?
Caterham and Tattenham Corner - these lines originally belonged to the SER, hence they ran through. After electrification in the 1920s they were cut back to London Br in the peaks.
As Jonathan H says, there were some changes towards the end and after Coulsdon North closed.
Did 8 car units appear to Tattenham
Probably, but only for race days.
Normal working was 4 cars Tattenham, 4 or 6 Caterham IIRC, often using the SR-style 2EPBs in the 50s-80s.

I’ve always wanted to know the length of these units
20 metres for each carriage - details available on the internet - same length as everything else which has run into Charing Cross for the last 35 years at least.

Some services were used as 6 cars during peaks
We've established that Southern didn't run to Charing Cross in the peaks. Some London Bridge services were indeed formed of a 455 and a 456. Indeed, Southern ran some services with 3 456s.
