Anyone else having fun with the southern WCML today? Been sat for 40 mins between Bletchley and Leighton buzzard. (Just started moving now). It’s been a fun day as should have been in London and back out the other side by now… we had a Cl56 with a 720 attached for company while waiting.

what’s actually gone belly up? As we have just been told signalling issues.

the guard from Rugby to MK on LNWR at least had a good sense of humour and said it was a good job they didn’t run a brewery as it’s been a shambles today!

A signalling cable came loose in the wind and struck the OLE cabling at Ledburn Junction.

Ahhh that would be why on RTT it says some are cancelled due to high winds.

2Z40 is the one I’m on I think… sat in LB at the moment and the CL56 is back with us again

Finally seen one come north, an Avanti. Not seen anything north for a little while and we are now on the move south finally…fingers crossed (just seen a freight going north through the station too).

We got on 1U30 at Nuneaton at 13:35, the new guard got on at Rugby who had the sense of humour, he at least made it slightly less painful… however after we changed at MKC for 2Z40 it’s been painful! The trains full but not quite standing room only, and it’s 2+3 seating which is making it fun too…the lack of elbow and shoulder room normally is okay as it’s a hour or so.. after a couple it’s grating a bit now.

just left Cheddington and was about to celebrate… then came to a rather quick halt.

You’ll be at the end of the ESW section (emergency special working), and the driver will be talking to the signaller, and you’ll be on the move very soon.

Edit - you are.

The speed felt like we was going 200mph compared to sat still got the fun of trying to get back north later on too… hoping we don’t end up on Avanti as other half doesn’t cope well with the tilting and small windows, makes her very green!

Tha'ts going to take a fair old while to put right!

Mind you, for 25KV through a 110v (or is it 660v?) system I'm lightly surprised it didn't blow the cabinet to pieces.
25kV and 650/110v signalling equipment do not make good bed fellows ,

Euston was rather odd, quieter than I have ever seen it but not been down since Cv kicked off, however wasn’t too quiet when our 12 coach train which was the first through for 5 hours apparently unloaded

I notice that 1M09 08:36 Glasgow Central to London Euston eventually reached London Euston 297 late at 18:16. I'm not sure if this is the most heavily delayed passenger train today. Many other southbound services appear to have terminated short of London, e.g. at Milton Keynes/Watford/Rugby etc.

On a very busy 3 coach 168 on the Chiltern line (bound for Kidderminster). I suspect a good number of passengers are displaced from Euston.

Guard is very apologetic for the overcrowding.

Milton Keynes Central station was so busy, I couldn't even get through the barriers and there were no trains anyway, so in the end I got a lift a home.

Well back at Euston and it’s fun! Nothing happening at all, went and asked about what we should do and got told just winging it on an Avanti to Rugby! This is to get back to Nuneaton.

min NR page it says we can use EMR to Leicester so tempted to do that and then XC to Nuneaton! - scrap that won’t get us back in time

Made it out of euston on an Avanti to Manchester that stops at Nun and it’s dead… back end of the train might be rammed but 3 of us in coach C. Luckly Real train times came to the rescue we was sat on the train a good 20 mins before it was announced (some one from Avanti let slip it was the right one confining RTT)

Slow lines were fixed overnight and operating as normal.

Fasts still out.

Not very normal if you were at Leighton going south. A 4-car 319 after an 80 minute gap the LNR special provision... Almost as good as knocking a Bletchley stop out of a service that was looped so sat in P5 anyway!

Same for going north from London to Leighton.

xx24 from Euston have the Berkhamsted, Tring and Leighton Buzzard stops cancelled

xx15 from Euston has the Leighton Buzzard stop cancelled

That just leaves the xx54 to Milton Keynes. No doubt it'll be a 4 car as well

1M09 took 60:45 Atherstone - Nuneaton South Junction, timetabled for 2:30. Also 6 hours and 23 minutes (1153 1⁄2 - 1816 1⁄2) from Crewe to Euston without a station stop, longer than the entire run from Glasgow!

Signalling operating as normal, not necessarily the service!

Guess.
How busy are services looking to be this afternoon? I need to get from London to Birmingham and I've only just seen about this disruption. Is it better for me to go by Chiltern perhaps? Particularly worried about social distancing so don't want to get on a packed train.

It is difficult to understand how a signalling cable, which would be in cabinets and troughs blows onto the OHLE.

Presumably signalling cables have to run up to signals, which are up on poles relatively close to OHLE.
