Starring - Class 27 27001 and Class 42 D821 'Greyhound'
Join us for our headline Diesel Event – Featuring visiting Class 42 'Warship' No. D821 'Greyhound' and Class 27 27001!
Running to an intensive timetable, we bring you our popular Summer Diesel Gala back for the usual three days in August, this time with a visiting Diesel Hydraulic, Class 42 'Warship' No. D821 'Greyhound' courtesy of the Diesel Traction Group and Severn Valley Railway.
D821, with its twin Maybach engines will be coming on a Summer holiday to Tunbridge Wells with its first runs being at our Summer Diesel Gala. The visit of 'Greyhound' to the Spa Valley Railway will be the first away for the locomotive from the Severn Valley in 6yrs!
Joining the Warship will be Class 27 No. 27001, courtesy of the Class 27 Loco Group and Bo'ness & Kinniel Railway/Scottish Railway Preservation Society. This locomotive will be travelling all the way from Bo'ness in Scotland to Tunbridge Wells West making it the furthest the locomotive has ever journeyed away from Scotland!
The Sulzer Type 2 will also make it the first of the class to travel on Spa Valley Railway metals.

The gala itself runs from the 2nd to 4th August however on Thursday 1st August we're going back to the 70s and 80s with everything 'Southern' in action running to an incredibly intensive timetable that includes freight (yes you can travel in the Queen Mary), the DEMU, CIG, 73 and both 33s. Trains from 09:00 to 18:00 continuously with turning back being done at Groombridge in both directions, both platforms at Eridge and Tun Wells in use as well as full length trips.
