(Warning: This post and I assume those of anyone who replies will contain spoilers for SPECTRE)

I figure that as Bond film are a cultural touchstone, it was about time we had a discussion about the latest one.

I have to say, I was very disappointed with Spectre. The plot seemed to be too contrived, trying to tie up everything neatly and ending up seeming like something a child would come up with. "And then it turns out that Blofeld is Bond's brother! And the nasty government baddie is evil!" For that matter, Lea Sedoux's character puts Bond almost in paedophilic territory. Swap Sedoux and Belluci would have made for a lot better film.

This really saddens me, as Quantum of Solace was an excellent film (I rated 5 stars last time I saw it), and Skyfall also very good (4.5 star). Spectre though... it's trying for the gimicky plots without playing it for laughs as Roger Moore did. The opening sequence was something that Roger Moore would have rejected as being too ludicrous.

Rating 2 stars - "meh".

Wait, what. New Bond fill turns out to be subpar?!?!

Shock, horror. No wait, entirely expected from franchise where the dead horse has thoroughly decomposed and we are now flogging the stain on the ground where the dead horse was...

I'd heard that the Bond horse was going to be the subject of a one off Time Team special .......

I'm a huge fan of Bond, both the books and the films (although the less said about Roger Moore the better *shudders).

I disagree entirely about it being a dead horse. It's arguably more successful and popular than ever.

However.....

I was also disappointed with Spectre.

I thought it started very well, however post title sequence it was a bit boring if I'm honest.

Daniel Craig seemed like he couldn't be arsed. There was none of the charisma he had in Casino Royale, instead he delivered most of his lines like he was reading them from a piece of paper.

The Bond girls were particularly disappointing. Neither of them seemed to be a particularly good match to Bond and I felt like Dr Swan fell in love with him far too quickly.

They certainly didn't come close to Vesper Lynd!

The supporting cast were pretty brilliant though. Ralph Fienes is a perfect choice for M, and Ben Whishaw perfect as Q, he stole every scene he was in. I also think Christopher Waltz will make a bloody brilliant Blofeld too.

In all it was a disappointing film with some redeeming features, namely the supporting cast and that car......

Oh, and did anybody else notice the scene that was out of sequence?

I have never been a big fan of Bond, so I will wait until it appears on proper (Freeview) TV . Bond films always seem a bit contrived and "over the top" for my taste - for "adventure stories", I prefer more serious drama (but without loads of gratuitous violence.)

The pre-credits scene was so ridiculous it could have been written in the Roger Moore era and discarded as being too ridiculous.

WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU FIGHT THE PILOT OF A HELICOPTER, IN THE HELICOPTER, WHILE FLYING OVER THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE?

The Bond girls were particularly disappointing. Neither of them seemed to be a particularly good match to Bond and I felt like Dr Swan fell in love with him far too quickly.

Monica Bellucci was criminally underutilised, Lea Seydoux goes from hating him to loving him in the insertion of a pin, and is way too young for Bond. Bond may have a licence to kill, but is he allowed within 100ft of a playground?

The supporting cast were pretty brilliant though. Ralph Fienes is a perfect choice for M, and Ben Whishaw perfect as Q, he stole every scene he was in. I also think Christopher Waltz will make a bloody brilliant Blofeld too.

I wasn't impressed by Waltz in this, his character was corny and I sincerely hope will never return.

The DB5 fetishisation has got stupid, the DB10 (?) is horrible. Bring back the Vanquish from Die Another Day...

I saw it the other day and I think Skyfall was better.
I thought the women in it were probably the most plain of any Bond film to-date.No beauties in this film that's for sure.
Daniel Craig looked like a bloke working his notice, his ego goes before him .
The action sequences were pretty run of the mill nothing special.
Liked Q and Blofeld but I thought M was very wooden.

I saw it and thought it was the best one since Casino Royale, Skyfall had better moments but this was consistently good all the way through and the baddie was much better.

It was obviously designed to be the end of Daniel Craigs run. Overall the four daniel craig films create a quadriology with a beginning, middle and end and all running plot points are wound up.

Lea Seydoux is 30; she's hardly jailbait.

That said, hating him to loving him in 20 minutes? Hmm.

I really enjoyed it, a great bit of fluff, which is what Bond films are. The panning during the start sequence at the Day of the Dead parade was genuinely brilliant though.

Lea Seydoux? Plain? Have you never seen Blue is the Warmest Colour?

No I haven't but compared to previous Bonds I thought the women in Spectre were simply not up to the usual standards, pretty but not beautiful.

Feel like this is the best Bond yet, the story and action are stronger than ever.

I liked it, even if it felt a bit like Best of Bond in some places, nice car chase

That Sam Smith song is terrible, it must be said, even worse than the Adele thing in the last film

One thing that surprised me though was after the accusations of being 'rapey' of a human trafficked child prostitute in the previous film they do exactly the same again with another rapey scene.
