I'm travelling from Tiverton Parkway to Penrith on 15th July 2015, at either 1238 or 1338 because these are the trains with the cheapest advance fares that are convenient for me: £40.25 and £41.25 respectively (with a 16-25 railcard).

I've tried splitting at Birmingham New Street but that actually worked out as more expensive. I was just wondering if anyone had an idea of places to spit it that would work out as significantly cheaper.

I don't mind paying up to £41.25; I'd just like to ensure I've exhausted all options.

I don't have time to check all the combinations at the moment, but, in general, I've found Wolverhampton, Cheltenham Spa, Bristol and sometimes Taunton to represent good splitting points on journeys of this nature.

Having had another more detailed look, I think that if you get the 1338 and split at Bristol Temple Meads, Cheltenham and Wolverhampton you can currently get the price down to £3.85 + £4.25 + £6.25 + £20.45 = £34.80
