St Albans South Signal box, now preserved, will be open for an extended period 10am to 4pm on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September in connection with the national Heritage Open Days scheme.
ENTRY FREE! (But donations are always welcomed, of course!)
Besides our usual signalling demonstrations, video of the box in use before closure and small museum of signalling and other railway items, we will have:
Miniature steam traction engine rides
Tea and cake in the garden - watch trains pass on the Midland Main Line
Model Railway with Hornby 'Live Steam' locos running.
We are in Ridgmont Road, off Victoria Street in St Albans, AL1 3AJ, at the bottom end of the NR carpark about 170 yards from the Platform 4 exit of St Albans City station. Please note that parking is free immediately by the box, but there may be a charge in the main part of the carpark.
Besides the 'Thameslink' trains there are numerous bus routes which also call at the City railway station.
