Website Updated:
The website of the St Albans Signal Box Preservation Trust has recently undergone a major revision - do have a look at: http://www.sigbox.co.uk - no change to the URL, by the way, but you will be transfered to the new site.

2011 got off to a flying start with some 700 visitors during January and our 5000th recorded visitor at our February open afternoon.

The box is next open on March 13th, 2 to 5pm, and then on the 10th and 24th of April, also 2-5pm. Entry is FREE - donations always welcomed, of course!

See the website for location information, access etc.

The first update this year we can sensibly show pictures of:
BRand4-aspectRed.jpg

The 'light-up' of the first stage of our colour light signalling demonstration. The picture above shows the first signal and it's associated banner repeater both showing 'Danger'.

The Colour light signal showing a 'Double Yellow' and the Banner Repeater showing 'Clear'.

We expect the whole demonstration will running by Easter (24th April).

Open Afternoons in April are the 10th and the 24th, 2-5pm both days. See our website http://www.sigbox.co.uk for more information, location details etc.

Looking good! Are those signals the ones that the LED ones have replaced recently?

The signals were donated by Network Rail a couple of years ago after work in the Luton area. The record cards in the heads indicate these signals date from the 1979 resignalling/electrification works. I assume that they were replaced by LED heads, but haven't been through Luton for somewhile now, so can't confirm.

Only the signals at the north end on Luton on the new gantry are led's (p1-3), the only other led's in that area are leagrave station signals. The banner repeater is from the up slow line adjacent to the platform.

Just a reminder that we're open on Sunday April 10th, 2-5pm.

All our colour light signals should be working by then!
