Is Perth short on Double Deckers at the minute? Been seeing more and more Tridents that are usually with Strathtay or Fife on local and rural Perth routes.

Seen 18082, 18086 from Strathtay and 18508 from Fife in the week or so.
18082 and 18508 are Perth vehicles, 18086 is a Blairgowrie vehicle (more than likely on loan, or was down for a service/MOT; not sure if Blairgowrie can dock vehicles)

Maybe I'm missing something so correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the idea of route branding a bus was for the fact that bus or buses, would be used on that specific route?

So are Perth constantly using their 1&2 Letham and Tulloch E300s on other routes and using other buses in their place. Surely it would be better to keep them on the routes they're meant for and let the other buses go elsewhere?

Arbroath have no more than 8 spare buses (and 1 reserve, 1 ancillary) to cover their PVR of 60 at the moment...

8 spare for a PVR of 60 is 13.33%, which is around the norm for Stagecoach, so nothing unusual about that.

The E300s that should be on the 1&2 have been put onto the 15/A, and the Tridents put on the 1&2.

If they are that short, surely they could draft in extra buses from other parts of the business to allow the E300s to be out back onto the routes they were designed for.

That's quite interesting, actually. Don't the 15/A have school runs tied in with some diagrams?

Unless I've worked something out wrong, my calculations say it's 11.76...%

However, having 2 SD, 5 DD and 1 coach spare isn't exactly suitable for services only suitable for a minibus. Not only that, but 2 B5LH vehicles failed in Aberdeen over the weekend whilst operating GoNorthEast festival shuttles, and a Solo was involved in an RTC.

A Versa was used on the DCC tendered 206 service just last week, too...

Yeah the 0750 15A is the school run for Perth Grammar and in reverse at 1520. Tridents 18014, 18015 and 18016 have been fitted with seatbelts and the branded E300s don't.

Pity the X2 is going. Means there is now no link to Edinburgh services from the Eastern Expansion, apart from the 89 which doesn't run that often and only serves part of the area.

I think the council will step in and pay for it for the next few months, since it goes to Amazon aswell, Just to say the whole west fife tenders are getting redone next year... and should have been out now for evaluation. You have to wonder if its been held back to rejig the peak links for the new suggested routes?

It has also been rumoured that from this date, contactless payments will be rolled out across the East Scotland network.

Not before time!

Let's hope the council step in and either route the 89 or subsidise the X2. Only issue uth the 89 is it finishes too early for commuters!

I wonder who has made the cockup of making the plate for Perth's 29019. It's meant to have been re-registered as 900RWX, but it's going about with a plate of N900RWX.

Hopefully it'll get rectified soon as at the moment it's going about Perth with a dodgy plate.

Looks like Bay Travels 89 is being rerouted to replace the X2. Let's hope they run it later, as it currently doesn't run late enough for commuters.

Nope. Unless some people kick up a stink, I think some might. Surly it wouldn't take much to have 07.04 morning bus and 19.00 return bus. Mind you

Driverless buses to start Edinburgh-Fife journeys within months

https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman....inburgh-fife-journeys-within-months-1-4833672

People in Edinburgh and Fife will soon be among the first in the UK to experience self-driving vehicle services as part of a number of new public trials. Three pilots have been announced, ranging from self-driving taxis to autonomous buses, that will get a share of a £25 million grant in a bid to bring self-driving vehicles onto UK roads by 2021.

An autonomous bus pilot in Edinburgh, known as Project CAV Forth, received a £4.35 million slice of the fund, paving the way for a service running from the Forth Bridge into Edinburgh Park Train and Tram interchange.

A driver will still be required to be present on the bus during the trial as a back-up for passenger safety and to comply with UK legislation.

Five Alexander Dennis single-decker manual buses will be converted as part of the pilot, carrying up to 42 passengers for 14 miles.

Business and Energy Secretary Greg Clark announced the winning bidders in Oxford on Thursday, after trying a self-driving vehicle first-hand, which is being tested around the city.

“Today is very significant because it just shows that the decision that we took to have autonomous vehicles as the heart of our industry strategy is now paying fruits,” Mr Clark said.

“We will see over the years ahead the use of these cars and vehicles right across the country, and so what we’re announcing today is that we’re going to have a pilot in Edinburgh for example, for a bus to drive autonomously into the city centre from outside.

“In London, we’re going to have Addison Lee cabs that are going to make use of the technology and further testing right across the country, so what was previously a rather futuristic hope has now become a reality.”

The MP was taken on a test vehicle run by autonomous vehicle software company Oxbotica, the first person outside its technical team to try the autonomous mode on the streets of the UK.

Co-founder Paul Newman travelled alongside, explaining how the system works.

All the projects will include social behavioural research, to understand how driverless technology can be seamlessly integrated into society, with the findings applied to the development for future autonomous service models.

Scottish Secretary David Mundell said: “I’m delighted that Edinburgh has been chosen as a base for this exciting project.

“The city is a hotbed for innovation and this £4.35 million grant is welcome further support for Scotland’s research and technology sectors.

“The UK Government’s Modern Industrial Strategy is investing in the UK’s future through innovation. Autonomous vehicles are just one example of that commitment in driving the UK forward.”

The Government’s Centre for Connected Autonomous Vehicles was established in 2015, in a bid to make the UK a world leader in self-driving technology, with £250 million - match-funded by industry, being invested so far.

Trials are already under way in parts of the UK, including Bristol, Coventry, Greenwich and Milton Keynes.
