Both bizarre and nasty, but strangely interesting. It's tragic that all those people died for nothing.

Very tragic, but it's like the Burma railway as well. Built at a time war using forced labour with huge numbers of fatalities.

But there were many other infrastructure projects where political prisoners were seen as disposable, power stations, dams, steel works, and thats not including the collective farms.
