On the same year, Broad Street station closed, as well as its last surviving intermediate station on the line, Dalston Junction. Dalston Junction reopened in 2010 as part of the London Overground.

The Metropolitan Railway used to operate trains through Wendover all the way to Brill and Verney Junction. When London Transport took over in 1933, they closed down the Brill line as it was uneconomical to keep running. The same occured to the line between Verney Junction and Aylesbury in 1936. Metropolitan services ceased serving Aylesbury back in 1961 partially due to the introduction of the A60 Stock. Nowadays Metropolitan line trains go as far as Amersham or Chesham, one of which was served by a shuttle until 2010. Chiltern Railways now continue to Aylesbury.

In the original "New Works Programme", created by the newly-formed London Transport, the Central line would've went beyond West Ruislip to Denham. However, the Second World War halted construction and afterwards the Green Belt prohibited residential buildings to be built on the countryside, including Denham, therefore potential commuters seemed unlikely if the extension went ahead, so the Central line was only built up to West Ruislip.
