There's two parts to this really:

    1) Are there any stations that surprise you at just how many trains call, or that indeed all trains stop?

I would have to say Manningtree on the Norwich-Liverpool St runs, and Cheltenham Spa on XC Birmingham-Bristol services. I can't imagine that either justify a half-hourly service on each service, or indeed can warrant the time penalty caused. Then again, what else would replace them?

    2) Are there any stations where only one or two passenger trains a day pass non-stop. Sort of along the lines of Richmond on the 1650 Twickenham-Waterloo, and Carlisle on the 1630 Euston-Glasgow Central.

    Cheers

I'm surprised that Alvechurch gets a 2tph service as well as Long Buckby getting a now 3tph.

Both seem like they're in the middle of nowhere

Ince has a large population and very few trains stopping (something like only one of the 6 an hour passing through).

Reason is twofold, its low income housing so their less likely to use trains and it would hurt the timings if more trains stopped.

York fills both criteria as everything calls there apart from the Flying Scotsman which trundles through the station without calling.

Even then it's only the Southbound that doesn't stop - (the traditional 10.00 ex KX is called the Northern Lights rather the Flying Scotsman now, stops at York and goes to Aberdeen)

Well seeing as there isn't northbound Flying Scotsman currently I didn't think I needed to point that out ;)

For part 2 of the question, Winchester and Southampton Airport Parkway are basically all trains stop, except for those odd up direction XCs that can't be pathed to include calls.

Stockport sees every train stop I think. Used to be 1 or 2 XC that didn't but these have been reinstated.

A couple still don't, the first Manchester-Birmingham, and the Manchester-Cardiff XC run I think are the two.

Cheltenham isnt a big penalty, it is slow through there anyway so it is only the dwell that causes any issues. There is the fact that you will always come in to the station on a red in the Birmingham direction becuase of the LCs but that doesn't really hit you much either.

I find all trains arriving at Charing Cross stop there. It would be slightly dangerous if they didn't!!;)

Stratford Int'l, bar a couple of peak services, has every domestic train stop there - and up until the opening of Westfield, it really puzzled me as to why! :)

Sorry, that was just a little joke.

Chorley? Does it really need to trouble the timings to Manchester?

Leuchars nowadays misses out on just one train a day in each direction, but apparently about 30 years ago only about half the trains used to stop there.

With the demise of the W&SR, I think Coventry must have all, or nearly all, trains stop?

Arbroath has every train call, as I think Haymarket does (except maybe a couple of east Coast runs). Further south, does Chestefield warrant the level of service it gets (especially 6 IC trains an hour)?

    Which two are them?

Connections with Stratford regional. I always saw plenty of people getting on and off there, even before Westfield opened.

Which peak services? I thought all the trains stopped there.

It never seemed to busy when I used HS1 whilst the bus link was in place. Then again that was mostly weekends and weekday lunchtimes.

The trains to/from Faversham are usually fairly quiet during the middle of the day.....in fact all the ones from here are. If I travel back during the evening rush hour though there's usually a fair few people on board, and there's always quite a few waiting to board at Stratford.

Wellington. Although it has a loop. Incidentally, does any train actually use the track straight through? I wonder why the loop is there, because just about every train seems to stop at Wellington. Except a couple of W&S occasionally didn't (anyone know why)?

Apologies, getting confused with Ebbsfleet :) The 18:40 from St Pancras is fast Stratford - Ashford.

Daisy Hill station. Every single train per day stops there except the very rare ECS move or diversion. 4 trains an hour.

A hell of a load busier than Swinton though, on the same line with the same service level per hour. Having said that it and Atherton are the only stations on the line to have every single service stop; Moorside and Hag Fold are missed out twice an hour, and Walkden and Swinton are missed by some early morning trains.

    Everything does.

Freight will go down the middle. The loop needs ripping out and the platform extending out, as it would get rid of a crappy approach control entry into the up platform.

Earlsfied, with a whopping 16 TPH off-peak in the direction of London Waterloo. Admittedly all services stopping there are stopping services, however I just don't see how the station warrants that high number of trains stopping there!
