We are very sorry to inform you that London Transport Museum has taken the difficult decision to cancel the scheduled Vintage Summer Steam train trips on the weekend of 10 and 11 September on the Metropolitan line due to the threat of planned industrial action which is beyond our control.

Heritage events like these involve a great deal of forward planning and preparation. Therefore, even if the proposed industrial action is called off before the 10 and 11 September, both the Museum and London Underground will not have enough time to reinstate the operational and logistical resources required to run such a large scale event at short notice.

While we realise that customers will be disappointed about the cancellation of the steam trips, we want to ensure that ticket holders have enough time to make alternative plans for their weekend. London Transport Museum will be offering refunds to all those who have purchased a ticket.

It is with much regret that we have had to take a very difficult decision to cancel these popular yearly steam train trips and we would like to once again apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Refunds will be made automatically back into your account within 7 to 10 days. Please contact our bookings team on tel: +44 (0)20 7565 7298 or email [email protected] if for any reason you have not received your refund.

What is the planned industrial action? A sad state of affairs.

Will Steam on the Met ever return?

Perfect excuse for LUL to try and prevent it from happening again, if they wanted to.

Very sad.

A lot of hard work went into working around the action at a senior level, but it just wasn't feasible in the short space of time remaining.

A lot of people in the right places are very supportive of heritage operations, and there are already whisperings of a return in 2017.

A similar level of effort goes into the 38TS as well... I'd expect a similar level of work in the A60 when it's retired from Sandite duties... Here's hoping a D78 can be kept in reasonable state too.
