I recently boarded an 11 coach Virgin Pendolino at Euston, only to find that my seat was absolutely covered in what appeared to be the remaining part of the previous occupants nutritious lunch (mushy banana to be exact), this made me wonder, what is the policy for cleaning stock that have arrived at a terminus and are due to go out again on another service? Our Pendolino showed no sign of even a quick clean-up during turnaround.

You should look at other TOC's Abellio Greater Anglia said they would step up their cleaning on their trains but I always find they're full of food crumbs etc.
But the worst train operator for train cleanliness is Southern their seats are dreadful i just cannot stand the Astro seating they use:-x

Usually cleaners just go round with their black bags and pick up litter. On some TOCs cleaners get on and off at the last station and pick up litter en route.

Likely late inbound running or something else amiss that stopped them cleaning up properly. I board a lot of Pendolinos at Euston and I can't remember the last time I got on one that hadn't been attended to, just bad luck I think.

The worst TOC for cleanliness is Northern.

Agreed. I've rarely found actual litter.

What's very bad on VT is the ingrained filth on every one of their fittings.

That Pendo's not looking good! Although I have noticed that they seem to be constantly putting litter collectors known as 'VOITH's up their trains.

Which video are we supposed to be looking at? When I click it just says Paul's Trip Reports. No actual link to a specific video.

I might sound really stupid, but I can't see a Euston to Manchester one :p

Good report, although the XX:43 service to Scotland is usually a voyager

I found it. That train didn't look too bad, and the table, well could that be plastic coming off? I couldn't see too much of it.

Your breakfast looked OK and all that for £16.50.

Great value! Although I personally would have prefered the voyager train, as the first class service is more attentive, and I just generally prefer the train.

I haven't done First Class on a Pendolino but your breakfast seemed a long time in coming.

I have done First Class on a Voyager, from Holyhead to Euston, and I had my breakfast on my table well before Bangor.

I prefer the voyager service as it takes ages for service to go around 4 coaches. When on a voyager, there only is one first coach, and the kitchen is in it!

If the train is late they don't have time to do a full clean this could be why mushy banana is left on the seat, when I've used Virgin I've always found crumbs of biscuits on my seat..

One of the best train companies for cleaning is GWR you see them with the Hoover when you get off at Paddington, I've never had a problem with a messy train when traveling with them.

I'm sure I've seen Northern cleaning staff with a hoover before.

On London Midland I have seen cleaners get on/off near the termini of the Snow Hill routes in off peak and walk through picking litter and light cleaning, in off peak, while the train is mostly carrying fresh air they can clean most bits without disturbing anyone.

Voith Industrial Services is the name of the company contracted to clean the West Coast fleet. Both on train and turnround staff should do table wipe downs as well as just litter picking, where needed.

You're not a Daily Mail journalist by any chance? ;)

Short of following every passenger round with a vacuum cleaner there's not a lot you can do about that. The train sets out clean in the morning, if every passenger left it as they found cleaning would be so much easier. Naive but I live in hope :(

As for AGA, though not perfect, in my experience they are better than many TOCs for turnround cleaning.

I guess the cleanliness would depend on the length of a train, so for example a wee 2 car pacer wouldn't take long to clean, but an 11 car Pendo would take much longer during turnaround. I guess that the priority during turnaround would be reservations, shop restocking and boarding, not cleaning.
