Northern run some extra peak trains too - off memory extras towards Chester (making 2tph), and an extra stopper to Macclesfield (in which hour one of the XCs diverts via Crewe to give the path)

For spotting, Piccadilly hands down. Pretty much everything which goes via Stockport will head towards Piccadilly (bar some freight services which go via Denton & the Saturday flyer)

Stockport middle of day is probably fairly interesting (there's a near constant flow of trains), but daytime you get the odd freight via Denton Jn.

Otherwise basically everything you see at Stockport you see at Piccadilly (plus more, of course)

Unless you also have an interest in airliners. Under prevailing wind conditions aircraft on approach to Manchester pass almost immediately overhead Stockport station low enough for registrations to be readable with the aid of binoculars (and in some cases without visual aids).

Same can be said about Clapham Junction.

Looks like for the next 10 days or so all the arrivals will be from the west over Knutsford. S some departures will be seen but many some distance away.
