Stoke on Trent to Durham

My father needs to be in Durham next Wednesday by the evening any time and he will return on Thursday at approximately 5pm. Usually splitting at Manchester and York I presume is the best but with a potential peak time train I'm not sure if this is still the case.

He has no railcard but he is eligible for a senior railcard.

A journey via Derby may be a possibility?

If you want walk up tickets, I suggest these. There are no problems with evening peak restrictions on these tickets.

Using a railcard would save just under £24. The railcard would cost £28. If your father is likely to use a train again in the next year, it is worth buying the railcard. He can buy the railcard at the same time as he buys the tickets (on the day of travel, if he likes) as long as he takes one of

• Either his birth certificate
• Or his passport
• Or his UK driving licence
