I take it the 4 u say are in pretty bad state are

025 - bodywork
027 - robbed internally

although in a bad way if enough work came up to justify spend, then they all could be returned??
Not going to happen tho
The four I've mentioned based on various observations have both bad bodywork and are heavily robbed. I suspect some of the other WQBA ones aren't much cop either.

For example... 033 has a lot of rust on it, including some holes in the side of the bodywork; doors open (never a good sign!) and clear external evidence of robbing (very little left on the roof, missing light clusters, missing wipers, etc etc.).

You're right that you can bring anything back if you want to spend the money on it, but I suspect the corrosion on several of these (and how bereft they are now of parts) would make them economically unviable to bring back.

Also when considering the likes of 024, 034 and 018 are far more healthy candidates to bring back into (full) traffic.

Thanks for reply

018 suspected would be stopped for maint

024 suppose depends how much the rewire will cost

034 is it not fully operational at present?

i thought 017/031/038 didnt look too bad in photos but it will be internally that will matter

90030 has been in store for 14 years, and appears to be decided upon for comeback. Surprisingly good news.

I think there are more plans for Electric hauled freight flows up/down the WCML. Freightliner have more loco's available with 86's and 90's. If DB want more business they need the ability to haul more trains, hence fixing 90's up.

I'd imagine all but the worst 4 examples (025, 027, etc) could likely come back if needed.

The virus situation notwithstanding.

Freightliner are planning to withdraw their fleet of 86s almost as soon as the Greater Anglia 90s transfer over.

According to Wikipedia, the 90s are in storage at Long Marston.

Not sure how true that might seem, unless there was a large convoy from Crown Point to Long Marston that went unnoticed in the last few days...

Or could you have meant the 86s? Haven't seen any movements of those to Long Marston either.

Somebody has edited the Class 90 Wikipedia page to indicate that locos 003-015 are “in temporary store at Long Marston”.

The two now operated by Locomotive Services Limited are now classed as "preserved"...

Yeah that's the other alteration that I was confused by. LSL isn't a railway preservation body is it.

Not that I'm aware of.
If the general consensus on here is that they're not preserved (and that there aren't any in store at Long Marston!) I'll change the Wikipedia article (and if anyone knows of any other issues on the page I'll do that too).

Utter wibble!!

In more accurate news 90030 is on the back-burner again unfortunately.

90034 and 90024 are ear-marked for brighter futures though.

Not sure that's entirely accurate either.

90034 is currently still at Ilford Depot, should imagine that its due to head back to Crewe soon now that Greater Anglia's MK3 sets have been stood down/withdrawn.

With GC not starting Blackpool until next year now, there is no rush!
