Don't know why those two were chosen, however ISTRC 47163 collided with 83004 at Wembley, leading to the latter being withdrawn. (Or was it 47164 taking out 83003??)

Correct the first time, it was 163. I remember 164 turning up at York with the big Union Flag on the side - it caused a lot of interest at the time!

And they painted 08531 into green for use as Liverpool St pilot. This was in the days when the railway was blue, blue and blue!

Except for 40106, and that vile yellow 312 in the West Midlands.

As for Stratford, I also remember seeing 47460 with wooden "Great Eastern" nameplates. ISTR BR stopped the fun with this one by transferring the loco to Haymarket...
