Well I know about the Leyland chaos caused by a PHBT earlier today and the S&C and Warrington diversions. However, why are services omitting Stafford and none going to Euston today? I originally thought (and accidentally posted) that this was due to delays caused by the rest of the events and diversions so they ran through non-stop but now know it's all due to engineering works.

However, what's with the Stafford diversions? Is this due to engineering? And as for Euston...the trains just aren't running. Nothing on National Rail or Open Train Times so can somebody enlighten me?

Well it's only the Liverpool trains that call at Stafford, and a quick check on the virgin website shows that after The 9:07 Euston and 9:48 Liverpool departures (am) there where no more direct services. I guess that has something to do with it.

The Birmingham/Scotland trains never call at Stafford

Arriva Trains Wales

Trains between Birmingham New Street and Holyhead / Aberystwyth / Pwllheli are diverted between Birmingham New Street and Bilbrook and will not call at Wolverhampton.

A connecting bus service will run between Wolverhampton and Bilbrook.

CrossCountry

Trains between Bournemouth and Manchester Piccadilly are diverted between Birmingham New Street and Stoke-on-Trent and will not call at Wolverhampton or Stafford.

A connecting bus service will run between Wolverhampton, Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.

London Midland

Buses replace trains between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.
Buses will run between Rugeley Trent Valley, Stafford & Stone.
Buses will run between Stafford, Stone and Stoke-on-Trent.
Buses will run between Wolverhampton, Stafford and Stoke-on-Trent.

Virgin Trains

Trains are diverted, not calling at Wolverhampton or Stafford.
Buses replace trains between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton.

Passengers for Stafford should use buses to / from Wolverhampton / Rugeley / Stone / Stoke.

This above is taken from National Rail.

ATW are running trains via Bescot, Bushbury Junction & Wolverhampton Stafford Junction

XC are running trains to Manchester Piccadilly via Nuneaton

VT are running trains to Preston/Lancaster via Nuneaton

---------------------------------------------------------------

The line is also shut between Crewe - Liverpool/Warrington Bank Quay

VT are running from Crewe via Manchester Piccadilly & Eccles to Wigan North Western & buses are running Crewe - Warrington Bank Quay - Wigan NW

LM are running buses from Crewe - Liverpool

I also believe that it's slow lines only from Milton Keynes Central - Watford Junction, so limited services are running from Euston.

And also for NSE a select few scottish services stop at Stafford :)

Does this help you VTPRESTON_TEZ?

Well it's the first time I've ever seen a Brum train not call at Stafford. Thanks for the help, but surely a Piccadilly stop should be in order? :P

Really? Go down to Preston station every day, every hour at xx17 is the Birmingham service not calling at Stafford. Only the last train a day does southbound and the first and last northbound call at Stafford IIRC. A stop at Piccadilly I think would be an ORCATS raid, Virgin have no 'right' to stop there.

It's not like VT haven't stopped at 13 and 14 before in the past few months either using them as terminating/starting platforms or I believe a few through services making a call. I'm not sure about the calling bit though.
I always see Stafford on the board for Birmingham services, maybe I get lucky these days though with diversions and the like. (Let's be honest though, Stafford is useful for breakdowns as there are platforms all reared up for services to make last minute calls IIRC)

If you're saying this has happened, can you go to Opentraintimes.com (or similar) and link us to some examples please?

I am surprised you always see Stafford as a calling point, because it often isn't (example1 example2 example3 shows the 1117, 1217, 1317 from Preston to Birmingham - are you saying that you see Stafford on the board for such trains?)

Or perhaps you made a mistake? We all make mistakes!

As I've said, nothing during the day (Monday-Sunday) is booked to call at Stafford, it only happens once or twice each way at the start / end of each day. Only if there's a major diversion on, or it is terminating there or Wolves usually, or in lieu of a Wolves stop do they call, such as today when they stopped on route to Birmingham via Nuneaton, not Wolves.

@yorkie these times were diverts while I was at Piccadilly so no OTT can be obtained IIRC.

it seems I am seeing these Stafford calls on the display, it might be different as my platforms have been ones with no Brum trains for the past 3 months.

Yes I gathered that :)

I don't follow. When did you see this happen?
err, a few months ago, about February?
