I can't see anything that would beat it - my only concern would be the potential for a delay to mess up the return journey - if you miss the Lancaster or Warrington connection, you should be allowed to travel on the Avanti direct to Crewe to pick up the train to Shrewsbury from there (as interestingly, the tfw service from Chester to Shrewsbury is via Crewe, not the usual route via Wrexham), but an 8 minute connection at Shrewsbury (depature time from Shrewsbury is 21:28 according to RTT) would also be making me wary considering the tendency for delay on the TFW lines around Shrewsbury, and since I wouldn't want to be stranded at Shrewsbury wanting to get all the way to Machynlleth.

You might be able to get a better deal by combining a Lancashire Day Ranger or Cheshire Day Ranger with Advances from the border stations (each £28.40 with no railcard, or £18.75 with a railcard).

Not sure that would save anything. The OP is currently paying £58.70 total. The two Day Rangers alone cost £56.80 and the OP would still need tickets from Bangor to Shotton, and from Whitchurch to Machynlleth.

What about a Warrington - Lancaster return with PlusBus to try to get into Morecambe quicker without having to time your day around the Morecambe shuttles when there's regular buses? Quite a long day so good luck with all the connections.

Warrington - Morecambe return is the same price as Warrington - Lancaster so might as well get ticket to Morecambe even if you don't end up using it. PlusBus is £4 and single each way on bus is £2 so no gain.

Performance on the Morecambe shuttles has been really bad this week, so you may end up having to use the bus. Coming back the 1738 service being a Leeds service may be more reliable than the 1829.
