Also, Norway has closed the border so are not able to buy a ticket to Narvik at the moment.Aha thank you that probably explains why I'm struggling to find any trains that aren't sold out!

I was just having a poke around on the Vy Nattåg website for Stockholm to Narvik and it seems to be totally sold out on whatever day you look at? Or have I missed something obvious...

These photos are lovely; thanks for sharing that link. I didn't know that the Skellefteå portion went all the way to Skelleftehamn (Skellefteå Harbour). Since Northvolt's vast factory and associated campus of peripheral suppliers is east of town, one cannot help but daydream that there might be passenger traffic east of Skellefteå Central.
Interesting that the journey to the junction took nearly an hour then as well.
I can’t see that happening, if for no other reason than a large chunk of Skellefteå is south of the Skellefteälv. Passengers aren’t going to get a bus to the station, take a very short train journey and then make their way on to their destination on foot or by another bus.According to the link there was quite a lot of business traffic between Skelleftehamn and Stockholm. And who knows, Skelleftehamn might be big enough for a small commuter line?
But central Skellefteå is north of the river. And there might be enough people living in Skelleftehamn and working in Skellefteå for a commuter train to work.I can’t see that happening, if for no other reason than a large chunk of Skellefteå is south of the Skellefteälv. Skelleftehamn only has a population of just over 3,000 and many of them probably work at Rönnskär. The area between Skelleftehamn and Skellefteå has around 5,000 residents and these are rather spread out. Only a rapid transit type system would have a chance and this would be up against buses, which probably do the job just as well. But central Skellefteå is north of the river. Starting 1 April 2022, one of the two Norrland night trains operated by Vy (NSB) will use the wye-track off the main line at Bastruträsk to serve Skellefteå.
