What’s the status of the 455s regarding overhauls or exams? Are some getting close to running out of mileage? That will probably determine what order they get withdrawn in

I wouldn't be surprised if some end up going for heavy exams now since ASLEF still haven't accepted the 701s. The rumour mill says the 701s won't even be introduced this year now.

Noticed 3? 458s stabled at Farnham. Not sure how long they have been there or why. The standard timetable sees no 458s stabled at Farnham.
One was probably the one that was involved in a tree strike at longcross a few months ago

8509/11/19 are the units. Been there since 22/04

5913 now status ok so one to watch for in the next few days. Probably on the Windsor side.

458506 was only in use for a couple of days on 22/04 & 23/04

455722 15/03/22

455722 is back in passenger use today (2J55).

Conversely, 455714 has now been out of use for a month (08/04).

Perhaps 455714 is now at Bournemouth. I do not know which pair replaced 455707+455727 on 22/04 in the C6 programme, so it could be one of them?

Barely any 455s and 458s have gone so far, because 701s are very slow to arrive. Anyone know why?
Because if swr did let a lot to go. It would be service cancellations galore.
No stock ie suitable stock available for this service. However this situation and grave mistake a big one has occurred before but on Arriva Northern between December 2019 and into almost covid 19. March 2020. When situation was well on way to being resolved. However final nail in the coffin for the franchise.
Whereby December 2019. Timetable change saw way too many 142 Pacers go for scrap and totally wiped out. Instead of keeping only 23 and using at the time only 11 a day though bizarre and bad management . When in reality they should have kept them longer
And more of them till at least May 2020.
However covid 19 would have produced the same result as we know anyway.
Same situation with swr with 455 and 458. Don't want to leave themselves in the situation like Northern was above .

As reported by WarrenTManager on Friday, 455913 has returned to service today(Mon on 2O07) for the first time in at least 9 months and possibly a lot longer than that.

5714 is at Wimbledon waiting a part.
8506 is waiting a coupler

Bournemouth has
5852/5741 standard maintenance exam (D) helping Wimbledon out.

There is no C6 for 455 planned.

458s will get a C6 at Bournemouth if needed. 14 done already.

458504 has just had a run around empty coaching stock through clapham Jct station and is shunting around to come back again back through the station again. Just noticed at 1439 hours between my travels on 455 to Epsom Downs. Is 458504 on it's way back?

Been back in traffic about a month.

Stored at Wimbledon it would seem
5740 is on 24 road, the second closest to the Woodman......

Sorry if this has been mentioned earlier, but why has ASLEF been unhappy with the 701s?
Predictably, it’s all discussed in the dedicated thread about the 701s, now at 125 pages. :D

Rail magazine recently quoted an FOI request to try and work out what had been going on, this is the post, #3669:

What is going on with 5703? That thing is causing some serious noise pollution.

Apparently, ASLEF have now accepted them and driver training is to begin shortly on the 701s - I can imagine that within the coming months, one may finally enter passenger service, resulting in further withdrawals…

After having been out of use on passenger trains since 28/02, 455907+455918 are in service today (2D18).

458506 returned to use yesterday afternoon (2S45)

They have been extremely delayed. But then again, the Aventra design is struggling a lot more than the Electrostar design that it was supposed to improve upon.

The 345s after 6 years have shown zero signs of improving reliability whereas the 357 after 6 years was the most reliable train in the UK.
Talk to me about "progress."

The 345 reliability must be a matter of concern given the impending Elizabeth line opening. However, they have an evolution of Electrostar software rather than Aventra software. The 710s and 720s seem to be performing better.

Not exactly about the to be withdrawn fleet (perhaps related to cascades) but I note that:

444009, 017, 018, 024, 037 and 038 are all on Alton/Basingstoke semis today, attaching and dividing at Woking. Altons are terminating at Farnham due to engineering work.

As a local of the Alton line when not at Uni, how I hope this will be a regular thing
