Doing it in situ wouldn't be a great idea, because the powder coating might accidentally get onto other parts of the train like the glass or bulkhead. So they cant have a new colour applied without being removed then?

Exactly. It's why buses rarely get their handrail colour changed. Remove them and they might not fit back again. Trust me, I know.Doing it in situ wouldn't be a great idea, because the powder coating might accidentally get onto other parts of the train like the glass or bulkhead.
Northern aint too bad surely. Unfortunately the same cant be said for the 444/450s as of yet but iam sure if the rails were navy like the 159s then it would look just as swishI am very impressed with the refurbished 159's. The interior looks very swish - almost new, and the seats are still comfortable. The colour scheme avoids stark, clinical whites and is generally soothing.
Other TOC's (cough Northern) should learn from this.

I'm not convinced that flat cloth is going to be the issue some think it is. We've had the partial refurbs around for almost 18 months now and the seats look no worse than if they had moquette fitted at the same time. Yes, Northern's flat cloth looks awful due to lack of cleaning, but both Chiltern and TPE use flat cloth, which looks fine. GoAhead's Go South Coast bus division also uses flat cloth and that's arguably a tougher environment than on trains. The problem with Northern is that they're getting rid of the seats.
A while back, I was worried about SWR putting in harder cushions to the 159's, but in truth, I needn't have been.
The only thing is, they seem to have gone for flat cloth rather than moquette, which looks fine at the moment, but might cause problems in the future.
Haven't had the pleasure of a refurbished 444/450 yet I'm afraid.

The Desiros won’t start until next year, once the interiors are finished. What's happening with the re liveries as there still a ton with swt
That would seem highly likely. Isn’t the final livery less stripey than the original “First day PR” livery anyway, as seen with the 158/159s?So will 040 and 111 have their vinyl removed, then corrosion repair and then have the full repaint?

This is what SWR have said will happen. So will 040 and 111 have their vinyl removed, then corrosion repair and then have the full repaint?
Not noticed this myself, but that's strange. However it's in keeping with the out of date information notices dating from the early 2000s that are still in place on the 458s.Yesterday, I made 2 journeys on a 458, one of them had SWT safety posters and the other had the posters removed. This was also the case the time before that I was on a 458. Are other 458 users noticing more SWT safety posters as well? This is very strange as they all had SWR posters about 2 months ago...
I was on 444043 today which was refurbished.Anymore refurbished Desiros over the past few days?
The 450s have always had heavily tinted windows. Are you sure it wasn't just the lighting conditions at the time?Hi all, I was on 450115 (which, judging by the smell of it had only recently been refurbished), and noticed it had tinted windows. From the platform you could hardly see into the carriage to see which seats are available! As a regular 450 commuter, I haven't noticed this before at all.
Anyone know how many have been fitted with tints and why?

There are a lot of messages in this thread so I find it difficult to pick out 'external repaint' messages from other repaint/refurbishment ones. Please could someone point me to the right message to find out, or briefly describe, what the different liveries variations are? Thanks!the mark 3 SWR livery
Oh right. I stand corrected. Wonder if it's an effort to try to combat hot weather and put less strain on the aircon. Just a thought.I don't think so. It looked more reflective from the inside too, almost like a Voyager.
Thanks, it does indeed help!Almost another two weeks have passed since last update, so for those tracking these things this is whats changed on the Desiro scene
