In the (distant) past I’ve been able to buy a ticket to extend a Travelcard from the boundary of its validity to another station. Today I’ve tried to do this at the ticket office at London Waterloo (boundary zone 6 to Staines) and the member of staff said this wasn’t possible and that I’d have to get it from the last station within the zone the Travelcard is valid (Feltham). Before I query with SWR, is there anyone that can confirm whether or not extension tickets are still available for purchase please? Thank you

Yes, they still exist. I bought one yesterday for BZ6 to Hitchin (though I bought it from c2c, not at Waterloo)

Unfortunately you’ve just found the sort of staff member who is encouraging people to use TVMs…. Bit of an own goal really.

Yes you can.

What you experienced is common. More often than not from Fleet I get told that I need a Fleet to Surbiton ticket. You can actually buy them from the TVMs (at least the ones SWT) have, but they are filed as "Boundary Zone -" (that's from memory, others will correct it if I'm wrong) so you need to search under 'B'.

The staff member is wrong and the ticket still exists. I'm sure @yorkie will be very interested.

Has been my experience that whether from the Zone Boundary, or the last station, it's the same fare, and often not too much difference to the fare from the starting London terminus.

Whilst that's often the case, using a named station naturally reduces flexibility for journeys with multiple route options (e.g. Cambridge, Oxford, Brighton, etc.)
